  • Curaçao Featured in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2017

The colorful ABC island of Curaçao set the stage for this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2017. Curaçao’s striking blue waters are prominently featured in the magazine, which is on stands now through the end of May. The two-week shoot, which was photographed by veteran photographer Ben Watts, included top models Vita Sidorkina, Rose Bertram, Samantha Hoopes, Barbara Palvin and Myla Dalbesio. The crew stayed at Avila Beach Hotel and explored many of the island’s highlights, including Playa Porto Mari, Jan Thiel, Shete Boka and more.   • JetBlue Adjusting Current Flight Schedule for New York to Curaçao Route

JetBlue is adjusting its current flight schedule to Curaçao. Starting on June 19, travelers can fly nonstop from New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport to Curaçao’s Hato International Airport every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Currently, the airline flies non-stop from JFK to Curaçao on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and the trip takes approximately 4.5 hours.   • Island-Wide Discounts for Summer Travel

In celebration of the Curaçao Hospitality & Tourism Association’s (CHATA) 50th anniversary, travelers can save on travel to Curaçao this summer with exclusive island-wide offers at more than 15 hotels.   • Scuba Lodge Completes Renovation

The vibrantly colored Scuba Lodge & Ocean Suites in the island’s trendy, up-and-coming area of Pietermaai has renovated one of its five buildings to include six new Superior Rooms. The new rooms include king-size beds, rainfall showers, and small kitchenettes. The 28-room boutique hotel, which is within walking distance of downtown Willemstad and the Queen Emma Bridge, also updated its guest check-in and reception area.   • Hilton Curaçao Upgrades Meeting Spaces

The Hilton Curaçao recently upgraded its meetings spaces with new carpeting and aesthetic finishes. The beachfront property has more than 7,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, including an intimate boardroom for smaller meetings and a large ballroom able to accommodate groups of more than 400. Situated on Piscadera Bay, the resort also features two of Curaçao’s largest beaches, a PADI scuba diving center and on-property casino.   • New Additions at Rancho El Sobrino

Rancho El Sobrino Resort & Restaurant on the island’s rugged west coast has completed its three new studios, which each accommodate two guests and feature wood floors and a modern glass shower. The rooms also include a small kitchen with a gas stove, kettle, refrigerator, coffee machine and more. In addition to the new studios, the property recently began offering car rentals for guests to explore the island.   • Royal Sea Aquarium Resort Introduces New Happy Hours and Breakfast Bar

The Royal Sea Aquarium Resort recently added a new poolside breakfast bar for guests to start their day on the right foot with classic favorites like omelets, pancakes, potatoes, bacon, French toast, fresh fruit and tropical island smoothies. Shelterrock Paradise, a colorful restaurant just outside of downtown Willemstad recently opened its doors. The small eatery, which is already becoming a local favorite, serves up island delights, including BBQ chicken and ribs, fried plantains, peas and rice, fresh fish and more.   • Williburger Opens in Banda Bou

The latest addition to the Curaçao culinary scene is WILLIBURGER in Banda Bou on Curaçao’s west side. The new restaurant recently introduced its very own “kabritu burger,” which is a spicy goat burger. The innovative dish, which is typically served as a stew, has been craftily created into a tasty burger. A portion of the food proceeds go to support talented children and encourage youth entrepreneurship. WILLIBURGER is still in the process of perfecting the dish and plans to expand its “kabritu burger” to various restaurants around the island.   • Trunkdivers to Expand Guided Dive Options

This month, Trunkdivers, one of the island’s dive operators, will add three new sites to its guided dive options. The first will take divers to see the caves of Watamula, an area known for its volcanic rock, before exploring a steep drop-off. The dive concludes at Playa Gepi, a small sandy cove on the island’s west coast. Another new guided dive option for advanced open-water certified divers is at North Shore, a site that sits 70-80 feet below sea level.   • Hilton and Caribbean Sea Sports Launch Dive Package

The Hilton Curaçao has partnered with Caribbean Sea Sports to offer a special four-night dive package, which includes accommodations, daily breakfast and WiFi, along with six dives.   • Substation Curaçao Aids Medical Research

Substation Curaçao has partnered with Sirenas MD, a California-based pharmaceutical company that researches new medicines by studying marine biodiversity. Together, the organizations recently completed a trip to Klein Curaçao in search of new sponges that contain chemical entities that modulate human immune response. The dives were completed in late March and ranged between 300 and 1,000 feet. The crew aboard the mini submarine discovered several new sponges, which are currently being researched in the company’s San Diego facility. For more information, visit www.substation-curacao.com.

  • CURious 2 Dive Offers New Dive and Lionfish Experience

CURious 2 Dive now offers a two-tank dive every Thursday to East Point, a pristine reef on the island’s eastern tip that’s home to a school of tarpon, sharks, eagle rays, barracuda, and turtles. Once the divers resurface, the guides will teach participants how to clean any lionfish that were caught, which can then be sampled at The Pier, a restaurant in the Jan Thiel area. Fwd: Journalist Rendezvous at Dolphin Cove Jamaica

Ocho Rios, Jamaica, W.I. (November 10, 2016) International journalist and entrepreneur Sonya Nandi Gilkey and her husband Glenn an educator and health advocate, recently escaped the ordinary during a five-day vacation cruise on board Carnival Sensation. Their cruise would take them across the azure Caribbean Sea with a stopover visit to Grand Cayman, then onward to Ocho Rios, Jamaica. The couple had always dreamed of spending time together on the “Island in the sun” as they have heard it described.

The Gilkeys graced the shores of the island on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 to reunite with fellow colleague Sharon Parris-Chambers who met them in the Garden Parish. Ocho Rios is one of Jamaica’s prime tourist destinations, located in the parish of St. Ann. The town has a population of just over 10,000 people and has come a long way since the 1940s, when it was known as a sleepy fishing village. Its transformation reminds one of Negril, once an obscured fishing village, today it is a complete tourist resort.  Visitors to the North Coast area are likely to see Jamaica’s number one Attraction, Dolphin Cove. They are also likely to visit Dunn’s River Falls, engage in other touristic activities, such as enjoying our great beaches.

Upon their arrival at the Ocho Rios Pier, Mrs Burrowes, Managing Director, dispatched Enrique Rivera, Cruise Ship Operations Manager, who met the Gilkeys. He greeted them warmly and brought them to Dolphin Cove, a short distance away. When they arrived, they were greeted by Mrs Burrows, who made them feel at home. They were assigned a hostess to attend to their needs. After they received their armbands, they were free to roam the property, explore Swim with Dolphin adventure, Mini boat rides, Glass bottom Kayaking, Shark Show, Jungle Trail or Interact with Stingrays.

The couple chose Swim with the Dolphin Adventure and was just in time for the 10:00 am show. Trainer Daniel Christie worked with dolphin Shakira, the real star of the show. Shakira gave them the experience of a lifetime when she performed the Kiss, Belly to belly, Cradle and Dorsal swim. She concluded with a star performance, twirling like a ballerina and then bowing gracefully.

“Swimming with the dolphins truly exceeded my expectations, said Nandi. It was exciting, yet an enlightening experience that released some of my previous fears of interacting with marine life,” she added. Before the rains began, the Gilkeys walked over to “Too Cool Lagoon” to ride the kayak, which they did for about 15 mins. before the downpour began.  “Our various encounters at Dolphin Cove opened me to a new and deeper connection with nature, worth sharing with others,” said Glenn.

The rains brought the curtain down on a memorable visit to Dolphin Cove Ocho Rios.

The Dolphin experience whet their appetites for more fun and adventure in Jamaica and our team look forward to welcoming the Gilkeys, their family and friends back to Jamaica very soon.

Montego Bay, Jamaica (August 8, 2016). The inaugural African Diaspora World Tourism Awards launched in May 2014 in Atlanta, has taken a giant leap ahead into the future, through a seeming alchemical transformation in just three years, as a major showcase of African royalty and cultural heritage in the Americas. The African Diaspora World Tourism Awards (ADWT-Awards) and Travel Expo are set to take place August 26-28, 2016 in Atlanta at the Westin Atlanta Airport (4736 Best Road, Atlanta, Georgia).

Jamaica’s internationally recognized pioneer of community tourism, Diana McIntyre-Pike O.D. will be inducted into the ADWTA Hall of Fame and will receive an award for her work in Community Tourism during a formal awards session. McIntyre-Pike has also been nominated as the Pan African Cultural Heritage Tourism Ambassador for Jamaica. She is the founder/President of Countrystyle Community Tourism/Villages as Businesses and President of the International Institute for Peace Through Tourism (IIPT) Caribbean for over 24 years, and Kitty Pope adds this tantalizing quip “The awards ceremony is a world-class event honouring movers and shakers in black cultural heritage tourism. Dignitaries, notables, professionals and cultural heritage and travel enthusiasts from all over the world will be in attendance.”

Returning to the ADWT-Awards and Travel Expo will be Sharon Parris-Chambers, tourism consultant, co-founder of the Caribbean Health Tourism & Spa Conference (2005-2009) and IIPT Caribbean Advisory Board Member, who has received the African Diaspora World Tourism Flame Keepers Awards for Online Publication, Websites and Online Media that have done much toward promoting black travel, and black cultural and heritage tourism in 2014.  She had also been nominated as Pan African Cultural Heritage Tourism Ambassador for the Caribbean and is in contention for other awards.

Joining the all-star honorees this year are: Lou D’Amore, founder & president of the International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) serving as an International Chair for the 2016 African Diaspora World Tourism Awards. D’Amore will also be an African Diaspora World Tourism Awards Hall of Fame Honoree, recognized along with Royalty at the awards ceremony. The global nature of D’Amore’s work   which underpins respect for all travelers and preservation the environment, finds synergy with some of the Royal guests who share IIPT’s mission of promoting peace through tourism.

TORTOLA, B.V.I. — The British Virgin Islands Tourist Board (BVITB) proudly announces the launch of the BVI Secrets Revealed Travel Agent Specialist Program, along with its accompanying mobile app and website, www.bvisecretsrevealed.com. This program will connect the travel advisor community to the BVI by offering industry insiders access to exclusive insights and tools that allow clients to discover the unique and exciting aspects of the destination.

The BVI Secrets Revealed Travel Agent Specialist Program features three main areas of content: Destination Discovery, Product Showcase & Supplier Directory, and the Sales Toolbox. The tabs enable professionals to continually discover, re-visit, share, and reinforce their sales knowledge of the BVI, while empowering them to tell the most impactful story possible about the destination. Travel advisors will be able to easily access all the sales collateral they need, including videos, brochures, presentations, top 10 lists, maps, and more. Basseterre, St. Kitts (June 21, 2016) – The St. Kitts Tourism Authority is pleased to announce that award-winning entertainment executive and entrepreneur Max Gousse will be on island to attend the 20th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival, which takes place June 23 – 25, 2016.

 
“We are excited to welcome Mr. Gousse to St. Kitts. Over the past 25 years, he has spearheaded some of Hip-Hop and R&B’s biggest projects and discovered some amazing talent, including international stars who have performed at St. Kitts Music Festival previously,” said the Hon. Lindsay F.P. Grant, Minister of Tourism, International Trade, Industry & Commerce. “In the history of our Music Festival, this is the first year we will have so many local artists performing. In addition to attending the Music Festival, Max Gousse will also participate in a workshop for local artists and conduct a second workshop specifically for the local artists performing in the festival, wherein he will also evaluate their respective performances.  The local acts scheduled to perform on Thursday night at the St. Kitts Music Festival include Shanna, Nicha B, KJah, KES the Band, Nu Vybes Band International and the Small Axe Band, while Dejour, Mod Stoney, I-Mark, Rodney and Crucial Bankie will be performing on Friday night.

A multifaceted businessman, Max Gousse has worked as the Sr. Vice President of A&R* for Sony’s Epic Records, Executive Vice President of Music World Entertainment, and Sr. Vice President of Universal Music Group’s Def Jam Record’s A&R division. GAY AND LESBIAN TRAVEL TO BE DISCUSSED AT REGION’S LEADING TOURISM CONFERENCE & NETWORKING EVENT

~ Presentation on why the LGBT market is lucrative is part of a general session on niche markets at CTO State of the Industry Conference from 21-23 October in Curaçao ~

 

(BRIDGETOWN, (Barbados) 1 Sept. 2015 Some Caribbean destinations are being encouraged to go after the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) market while others are being advised  to first determine if it is among their top three priority niches before allocating funds for outreach programmes to this community.

David Paisley, the senior research director at Community Marketing and Insights, a San Francisco, California- based market research firm that specializes in outreach to the LGBT community and which works with tourism bureaus to reach out to that community, has said that while gay and lesbian travel is lucrative, not all destinations are attracted to it.

“For some destinations the gay and lesbian market makes a lot of sense, for others it does not. I look at the Caribbean on a whole, I think some destinations probably should be going after the LGBT market, other destinations probably need a sitter. Is this a sort of market that falls into your top three niches or not? That doesn’t mean you are an LGBT unfriendly place. It means your budget is limited and you need to go after other niches,” said Paisley, who said that over 100 tourism bureaus have outreach programmes to gay and lesbian travellers.

Paisley will present on the subject at the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO)’s State of the Industry Conference (SOTIC) in Curacao next month. He will be part of a panel entitled, Business Opportunities: Teach Me to Niche, which will also explore entertainment tourism and the millennial market.

“Gay and lesbian travel can be a real economic boom for some places and some destinations recognize that and are going after that market,” added Paisley.

He explained that this niche travels and spends more than their mainstream counterparts, particularly on hotels, restaurants and shopping. His presentation will focus on the numbers, as well as strategies that have worked for destinations that reach out to this market.

“What I want to emphasize is some of the statistics around the LGBT community and why it is a lucrative market, and try to get people to better understand why is it there are over 100 tourism bureaus that are actively outreaching to the LGBT community today. I want to break some of the myths. Gays and lesbians are like everyone else out there, we are travelling to a place because we want to have comfort, we want to have fun, we want to have a good time, we want to get out of work and our regular lives.  And the basic motivations for why we travel are exactly the same as everyone else. And I want to talk about some of the outreach strategies that have been successful for other destinations.”

The CTO State of the Industry Conference, the pre-eminent tourism gathering in the region, takes place from 21-23 October. It brings together tourism decision-makers, including ministers, commissioners and directors of tourism, hotel and airline executives, travel agents, students, the media and persons directly and indirectly involved in tourism. It is preceded by CTO business meetings, including meetings of the board of directors and the Council of Ministers and Commissioners of Tourism.

This year’s conference, which has as its theme, Caribbean Tourism: Growth Through Innovation, is organized in collaboration with Curaçao’s Ministry of Economic Development and the Curaçao Tourism Board, with support from the United Nations tourism agency, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). It will be held at the World Trade Center in Willemstad.

Hat-Trick of Accolades for Saint Lucia at the Inaugural Telegraph Caribbean Travel Awards

(London, 29 June, 2015) Saint Lucia picked up three prestigious awards on Thursday night at the inaugural Telegraph Caribbean Travel Awards which took place at the annual ball on behalf of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO).

 

 

Simon Reeve, best-selling author & TV personality Atlyn Forde, SLTB’s Director of Marketing, UK/Europe; Carol Hay, CTO’s director of marketing, UK/Europe; and Charles Starmer-Smith, executive head of travel, Telegraph Media Group

Across 10 different categories the island won ‘Favourite Luxury Hotel’ with Sugar Beach, joint winner of ‘Favourite Boutique Hotels’ with Rendezvous Resort whilst the destination itself was awarded ‘Best for Spa Holidays’ and runner up for ‘Top Nature Holidays’.
