These Dogs Knew Nothing But Pain Until Rescuers Gave Them A New Lease On Life

Living in total misery, two young pit bulls named Lois and Clark lived under a truck until fairly recently. Starving and in desperate need of medical attention, they weren’t going to last much longer in that state. That’s when a few volunteers from Hope for Paws heard about their situation and decided that enough was enough.

They struggled a bit at first, but after some coaxing, they were able to wrangle the terrified pups. When they started warming up to rescuers, the adorable pair revealed that they were actually big softies.

Lois and Clark are now looking for a forever home, and the folks at Hope for Paws really want to find a family that will let them stay together. If you’d like to help them, please consider sharing their story and directing people in the Los Angeles area to the shelter.

This Highway Rescue Of Two Dogs Will Have You On The Edge Of Your Seat!

Would you have stopped?

When drivers on California’s 210 Freeway spotted a German shepherd and a boxer sprinting in the road, they didn’t even hesitate. They stopped and jumped into action.

It took several attempts to grab the dogs off the busy highway, and this video captured some of the action.

This is unlike any rescue I’ve ever seen…

(via The Dodo)

Both dogs were saved and brought to a local animal shelter. What’s even more incredible is that the people who helped were just random passersby. One rescuer says of her decision to help, “I just had to stop and save them.”

They Heard Screeching Coming From A Well, But They Never Expected To Find This

Villagers in Maharashtra, India, suspected that something was wrong when they began hearing howling and crying coming from the town well.

After a simple investigation, they discovered that a leopard had somehow managed to take a 60-foot plunge into the water. A group of them crafted a bundle of sticks that would serve as a life preserver until a rescue team could step in.

Rescuers from Wildlife SOS were quick to arrive on the scene. The team, led by veterinarian Ajay Deshmukh, decided that their best bet was to lower a crate into the well in hopes that the stranded leopard would become curious and want to check it out, allowing them to pull the jungle cat to safety. At first, our leopard friend thought the crate was an enemy, but after a while, the frightened feline figured out their rescue plan.

If it hadn’t been for these quick-thinking heroes, this precious leopard might have drowned.

When These Hunters Came Across An Elephant Stuck In The Mud, They Had To Help

When a group of men on a buffalo hunt in Chirundu, Zimbabwe, came across a three-year-old elephant stuck in the mud, they dropped everything to rescue it.

The group was accompanied by professional photo guide named Norman Crooks, who captured the daring rescue on camera. While the elephant’s mother was nearby, she was unable to help her baby. As she stood snorting and grunting, the men tied a rope around the baby and began to pull it from the mud with the help of their Jeep. According to Crooks, there wasn’t much time to waste. The sun was beating down and the elephant was already exhausted from the struggle.

At any moment, the mother elephant could have charged and injured one of the men, but they risked it all to pull her baby out of the mud.

This Starving Little Boy Was Accused Of Witchcraft, So He Was Cruelly Abandoned

Danish aid worker Anja Ringgren Lovén has seen some horrible things, but when she came across one little boy in Nigeria, she was beyond shocked.

While working for an aid organization to bring food to southern Nigeria, she came across an emaciated little boy roaming the streets. The two-year-old orphan was naked, riddled with worms and close to death due to starvation and thirst.

In the heart-breaking video of the encounter, the disoriented little boy was too weak to stand after Anja gave him a sip of water. As he kept falling over, she asked why no one was feeding the child. The locals responded, “no mother, no father.”

That’s when Anja pieced together the toddler’s nightmarish situation. Like thousands of other Nigerian children, he had been abandoned by his family after being accused of witchcraft.

Anja took in the small boy and named him Hope.

We’re very happy to report that since his rescue from the streets in January of this year, Hope is now a healthy and happy boy. Being rejected by your own family must be the loneliest feeling a child can experience, but he’s found a new loving family now at an orphanage recently opened by Anja.

Hope is all smiles these days.

There are terribly cruel things in this world, but a kind act like this can restore your faith in humanity.

Seeing an abandoned, starving child like this boy be welcomed into a happy community is enough to give anyone hope (pun intended).

This Woman Has Made It Her Life’s Goal To Rescue Dogs In Need All Over Nepal

A little over six years ago, Kate and Doug Clendon took in a dog with a broken leg, but that’s just where their journey started

The New Zealand couple cared for the pup in their house, got it veterinary help, and returned it to the community it called home. But when word spread of their selfless deed, more dogs came to their doorstep and the need for a more permanent solution arose.

That’s when they decided to devote their lives to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming poor dogs in Nepal. Community Dog Welfare Kopan was born.

Kate and Doug Clendon wanted to help as many dogs as they could, so they built a shelter next to their house in Kathmandu.

Though Nepalese people believe it’s important to care for not only their dogs but those of the community, the country is incredibly poor.

So when the shelter opened, the kennels were quickly filled with pups in need of food and medical care.

The small team at the shelter works day and night to help treat all kinds of ailments — from broken limbs to tapeworms and cancerous tumors.

They also work with the community on bigger events to distribute vaccines and spay and neuter animals.

While funds have always been a little tight, as is true of most rescue shelters in the world, things were only made worse on April 25, 2015…a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit the region.

Now more than ever, the people of Kathmandu call on the shelter for help treating lost, injured, and starving dogs.

The dogs (and the locals) are ever grateful for all the aid.

Learn more about the incredible work that Kate and her amazing staff are doing at CDWK every day:

If you’d like to contribute to this amazingly worthy cause, every bit counts. There are plenty of ways to get involved. While every community should be so lucky to have kind people like Kate and her husband, it’s struggling countries and cities like Kathmandu and Nepal that really benefit from their good nature.

Be sure to follow along with all their wonderful work on their Facebook page.

These Animals Were Living In Inhumane Conditions Before These Heroes Arrived

When the 66 dogs and three horses on this Galia County property in Ohio were found, they were in terrible shape.

Left without water and adequate food for who knows how long, there’s no telling what the fate of these animals would have been had the Humane Society of the United States not stepped in…

From the outside, the home looked relatively normal.

But the inside told a far sadder story. Hiding under every surface…

…were scared, starving dogs.

They all desperately needed medical attention, food, and water.

The Humane Society of the United States knew just what to do.

Watch the full rescue below.

They Walked Into A Seemingly Normal Home, But The Condition They Found It In? Horrible.

I wish this was the last time I had to cover a puppy mill rescue, but I know it won’t be.

Despite the widespread knowledge of the cruelty animals experience in puppy mills, the ASPCA still estimates that there are as many as 10,000 of these establishments all over the U.S.

People who purchase animals from pet stores are all but handing their money over to unlicensed, horrible puppy mills.

No matter how adorable they look, odds are, the dogs came from an irresponsible “breeder” who cared very little about their well-being.

This is what a puppy mill really looks like.

When the amazing people at Animal Rescue Corps got to the scene of this particular home in Morgan County, TN, they named the rescue Operation Dire Straits.

And it’s obvious why…these dogs had no time left.

Watch to see what else they found on the property and just how long they worked to save all these helpless animals.

Please, please consider contributing to Animal Rescue Corps. They are doing incredible things to give animals like these ones a second chance at a happy, healthy life.
