This Company Just Took Their Advertising Campaign To A Heartbreaking New Level

There are plenty of commercials out there that rely on shock value, and this one’s no different.

The folks over at Life Alert decided to ramp up their advertising efforts with a heartbreaking commercial that highlights the dangers of living alone in old age. This brand focuses on cutting down on that level of risk by providing elderly people who still want their independence with wearable devices that they can use to call emergency services.

Their newest advertisement makes the issue hard to ignore.

It’s important that elderly people take precautions to protect themselves if they live alone. The older, wiser people among us deserve their independence, but the ability to reach out for help in times of crisis is key.

What Happened To This Aircraft At 10,000 Feet Will Make You Stick To Taking Trains

If you’re making a list of the worst things that could happen during a flight, a hole being blown in the side of the airplane probably tops it. While it’s an unlikely scenario, this is exactly what happened on a flight that was leaving Somalia’s capital city of Mogadishu.

Shortly after liftoff, an explosion of unknown origin tore a hole in the side of the plane near the fuselage.

Luckily, the plane was at a low enough altitude (about 10,000 feet) to make an emergency landing.

Initial news stories reported that at least one person was killed in the explosion, and two more were seriously injured. An official count of casualties, however, has still not been released by authorities.

What we do know is that the majority of the passengers escaped with no serious injuries.

Even scarier than the pictures is this video that was taken shortly after the explosion. It was recorded by Awale Kullane, the U.N. Ambassador of Somalia.

Well, that is utterly terrifying. Needless to say, officials are still investigating the cause of the explosion. In the meantime, I suggest that you all pay attention to the in-flight safety demonstration the next time you travel.

When Two Loving Dogs Refused To Leave Their Dead Owner’s Side, Our Hearts Broke

When police were called to a remote location in Paraná, Brazil, to pick up the remains of a man who was murdered in his home, they had no idea what they’d find. That’s why they were blown away when they saw two dogs standing over his body. Even though the dogs were exhausted, they became visibly upset when the man’s body was loaded up and taken away.

Most heartbreakingly of all, they followed the vehicle for more than 10 miles until they couldn’t run anymore. The footage is so sad that we couldn’t bear to watch it more than once.

“The dogs seemed very loyal to the owner,” Carlos de Anjos told Globo News. “They followed us almost all the way until the exit to the city. The bigger dog was in front of our car, and the smaller was behind us. They were quite anxious.”

Anjos was so moved by the two dogs that he told the victim’s extended family about their loyalty. He even volunteered to take one of the dogs. Luckily, the victim’s neighbor agreed to look after the other. For more on this heartbreaking story, check out the video below:

“This is a great lesson. The dog was loyal to the owner even in death,” Anjos said. “This shows that one should never abandon any animal.” We wholeheartedly agree, Anjos. There’s no form of loyalty stronger than the bond that’s shared between a dog and its favorite human.

Don’t Try This At Home…I Don’t Even Know How He’s Still Alive

If someone says you shouldn’t try something at home, just listen, okay?

Some activities are born from terrible, terrible ideas. That being said, certain people get great joy out of ignoring those warnings.

Like this guy, who decided to light a cigarette with an electrical outlet, because who cares about personal safety? He would rather risk death by electrocution than go out and buy a new lighter. I’ll let you guess where he’s from.

Well, at the very least, I’m impressed that he was actually able to pull it off. Just don’t do this, okay? Please don’t.

I have no faith left in humanity.

This Interview With A Rabies Victim Will Break Your Heart And Make Your Skin Crawl

As we’ve discussed here before, rabies is a disease straight from the bowels of Hell. It affects the body’s central nervous system, and it’s almost always deadly if people do not seek medical treatment immediately. One of the most terrifying things about rabies is that its incubation period is unpredictable. Sometimes you exhibit symptoms in a few days, and other times it can take years before you know you have it. By then, it’s usually too late.

When symptoms express themselves, physicians can do little more than make patients comfortable. The final days are extremely painful. The following interview with a rabies victim nearing the end of his life is heartbreaking and terrifying.

(source: TheFQALL)

If you ever find yourself in the midst of an animal attack, do yourself a favor and consult a physician immediately afterward. When it comes to fighting rabies, every second counts.

Apparently, Ebay Is A Lot More Morbid Than We All Thought

As we all know, eBay was the first real wild west of the internet back in the day. Of course, with more money came more regulations, which means that it’s hard to find strange and borderline illegal items for sale on eBay anymore.

Unless you’re looking for human skulls, that is. Yes, I said human skulls. In fact, until very recently, it was pretty darned easy to get your hands on someone else’s noggin thanks to a bizarre loophole.

Over the course of a few months, the staff at the Louisiana Department of Justice in Baton Rouge conducted a morbid study.

iStock

They tracked the sale of human skulls on eBay. During their seven-month investigation, 237 people listed 454 skulls for sale. The highest opening bid was $5,500 and the lowest was just one cent.

iStock

Technically, selling human skulls online is a violation of the company’s terms of service. There was a loophole, however, that claimed it was okay if they were sold for medical research. That being said, there’s really no way to regulate what people do with their eBay purchases.

iStock

The majority of skulls for sale came from California, followed closely by Missouri.

iStock

According to investigators, not all of the skulls were donated to science. Some probably came from archaeological digs or from police investigations.

Since the report was released last week, eBay has announced a change to their terms of service to ban all sales of human body parts with the exception of hair.

Well, I guess I missed my chance to snag one of these. Blast you, researchers!

A Symptom Of Rabies Is Hydrophobia… And It’s Way More Terrifying Than You Thought

In most parts of the Western world, you no longer have to worry much about catching rabies. Sure, the virus is still out there, but it’s nowhere near as common as it used to be. Sadly, that’s not the case in other parts of the world.

When humans contract rabies, the disease is devastating and almost always deadly unless immediate action is taken. Among the many symptoms of rabies is a severe aversion to water known as hydrophobia. Those suffering from rabies often experience extreme difficulty swallowing, and they panic when presented with liquids. Watch what happens when this hydrophobic man tries to take a drink.

WARNING: This video is not for the faint of heart.

No one on the Internet knows exactly what happened to the man in this video. Judging by his symptoms, however, the prognosis seems pretty grim.

What Happened To These Twins On A Highway In The U.K. Is Absolutely Insane

Some stories are almost too bizarre to believe, since the actions of the people involved in such stories seem to defy logic and explanation. Then, just when you think there’s a conclusion, everything twists and you’re left scratching your head.

While you probably haven’t heard too many stories like that, the tale of two Swedish twins on a trip to the U.K. certainly falls into that category.

Our story begins with police questioning a pair of women alongside a busy highway. A film crew with the police catches the interaction. Then, right in the middle of talking, one of the women makes a run for it and heads straight into traffic.

She is struck by a truck and seconds later, the other woman bolts as well. However, she doesn’t make it very far before being slammed by a car.

With both women lying in the middle of the road, police have to act fast to stop traffic, attend to the injured women, and then clear the roadway.

At that point, one is severely injured, but the one hit by the car could still walk. After regaining consciousness, she bolts back into the street.

Police needed extra help to finally subdue her and bring her back to safety. All the while, the woman continued to struggle and call out for the authorities. Officers at the scene suspected that she must have been high.

A few minutes later, they’re both taken to the hospital.

You can watch it all unfold in the video below. The footage is harrowing, to say the least.

(via Adrian VERNE)

Think this story can’t get any weirder? Well, it does. Turns out that the less injured of the two women was released from the hospital and spent a day in jail. The same day she was released from jail, police found that a 54-year-old man had been stabbed to death. Nearby, they also found the woman badly injured after she jumped from a bridge onto the A2 highway.

While more recent updates are hard to come by, I’m going to keep hunting.

This Car Was Sinking In The Middle Of A River When A Passerby Became A Hero

Amsterdam’s waterways attract thousands of tourists to the city every year, but for one mother and child, these attractions almost proved to be deadly. The woman’s car somehow ended up in one of the canals, and if they didn’t get help quickly, she and her child would surely have suffered.

Lucky for them, one man didn’t hesitate to step up and save the day. After he jumped into the canal, a few more men followed. Check out the daring rescue mission in the video below.

When things go wrong, it gives people an opportunity to show their true colors. This situation further proves that ordinary people can be heroes.
